THE STUDIO

Two people, one workshop, and a habit of building frames.

Wren Aldous Studio designs sets, launches and rooms from a workshop in Lisbon. We build what we draw, and we are there on the night.

ABOUT

I trained as a theatre designer and spent ten years building other people’s sets before starting my own studio in 2019.

The studio is small on purpose. Every project gets both of us, from the first site visit to the last screw coming out on take-down day.

Most of what we build is temporary. We plan a second home for every piece before we cut any wood, and so far nothing has gone to landfill.

We work anywhere with a road to it. Recent worlds were built on a salt flat, in a palm house, on a beach, in a desert and in the snow.

HOW WE WORK

Four rules we keep.

01

Stand where they stand

Every drawing starts from the audience’s eye height, not a plan view.

02

One frame per world

One shape tells people where to enter. We never need signs.

03

Build less

If the place already does something well, we leave it alone.

04

Plan the second life

Every set has a new home booked before it is built.

WHAT CLIENTS SAID

In their words.

She found us a building that already looked like the collection. Then she had the nerve to add almost nothing.

Inès Ferré

Maison Ferre

We asked for a film set. We got a frame on a beach and the best two days of weather-watching of my life.

Oskar Lindqvist

Norrvik Outerwear

The pavilion had nothing in it and people stayed for hours. I still don’t fully understand how.

Maja Halden

Halden Audio

Nine minutes of sun, forty pieces, and every one of them sold. Wren planned it to the second.

Luz Ocre

Casa Ocre

Our quietest room is our most booked. Guests write to us about the light for months.

Sigrid Lysnes

Hotel Lysnes

One van, ninety minutes, forty nights. The set made every hall feel like my kitchen.

Tovah Lune

Independent

Let’s build the next one together.

Two lines about the place, the audience and the date is plenty to start.
